Over 700 people attended the 7th Annual Day of the Child celebration held at McKay High School, presented by the district's Migrant Education program. There were educational displays and games for kids, folk dancing, a guitar ensamble, raffles, and a special performance by José-Luis Orozco.
Over 250 students and family members went from classroom to classroom traveling the "world" with passports in hand learning about the cultures of different countries, like Burma and El Salvador.
In the classrooms students participated in a variety of activities including weaving, kite-making, board games, and even traditional face painting. The featured presentation included a performance by the Ballet Folklorico Tlanese, which shared several traditional dances from various regions of Mexico.
This event was a critical part of the dual language program's plan to achieve its goal of developing cultural competency in its students.
