Battle of the Books 2009

Candalaria Elementary School's team won the district's 2009 Battle of the Books competition on April 17, 2009.
Book worms from all over the district put their wits, memory, and reading skills to the test at the Battle of the Books competition that took place April 17 at the Salem Public Library. This year, 15 elementary schools participated by sending a team of four students to represent their school.
Schools competed tournament-style, answering specific questions about characters, settings, and various details from a predetermined list of 16 books. Winning teams worked their way up to the final round.
Candalaria and Miller Elementary schools entered into a tie-breaker session to see which team would compete against Myers Elementary in the final round. After each team correctly answered 12 questions, some of which were made up on the spot, the judges decided to have a three-way finals competition: Candalaria, Miller, and Myers.
Candalaria Elementary School correctly answered all the questions, and won the 2009 Battle of the Books district competition.
